At Irving, technology keeps students engaged, teaches them responsibility, and gives them ownership of their learning. With students from early childhood/pre-school through grade 5, a high percentage of students are low income and many are English-language learners. All K–5 students have access to iPad both in and out of school. Teachers have both a MacBook and iPad.
In co-taught classrooms, technology helps teachers differentiate lessons for their diverse group of learners. Students make their ideas come to life by using websites and apps such as iMovie. Some staff have chosen to paint a green screen on their wall to help accommodate for creative videos.
Irving students present and learn alongside other students at the annual SIT (Students Involved with Technology) conference that brings students together across Illinois in grades 3–12 to learn from one another. Students run the show, giving the keynote speech and leading the more than 40 breakout sessions on a variety of technology topics.
